LaunchPad is a dynamic, beginner-friendly course designed to introduce middle school students to the exciting world of aerospace engineering. Packed with interactive lessons, real-world examples, and inspiring stories, this course helps students explore the science, history, and future of flight and space travel—while building their STEM skills and confidence. Over six engaging units, students will journey through topics like the physics of flight, rocket science, space missions, and the engineering design process. They'll also learn about the people behind the innovations—including trailblazing women and minorities in aerospace—and discover how to start preparing for a career in the skies and beyond. 🌌 What Students Will Learn: Unit 1: What aerospace engineering is and how it has evolved from the Wright brothers to SpaceX Unit 2: The four forces of flight, how planes and rockets fly, and basic principles of aerodynamics Unit 3: What space is, how satellites work, and what it takes to send missions to Mars Unit 4: How engineers design, test, and improve aerospace technology through real-world processes Unit 5: The vital role of women in aerospace, past and present, with a focus on visibility and empowerment Unit 6: Career paths in aerospace engineering and how students from all backgrounds can get started Each unit includes quizzes to reinforce key concepts and vocabulary, as well as opportunities for hands-on exploration and reflection. After completing the course, students will receive a completion certificate with is sponsored by the Western Museum of Flight.
